Now that I’ve returned from my 3 week holiday, I’m easing back into some of my home routines. One such weekend routine of which I never tire is the visit to the local open air market. Every town in France has one and it’s always full of beautiful fresh produce.
Of course, I love the idea of cooking with high-quality ingredients from the region. But for me, the pleasure of visiting the French market extends to soaking in the singular atmosphere that creates the revitalizing experience of market shopping. It saturates the senses with pops of glistening colour, the aroma of juicy, spitted chicken, the jovial weekend chatter between shoppers and vendors. While even the thought of going to the supermarket makes me glum, le marché puts me in a bright, chipper mood that ripples out into the rest of my weekend.
Do you have any weekend rituals that lift your mood? I’d love to hear from you!
